Laura Caviani is Carleton College’s Jazz Area Director. Recent collaborations include her project Tableau with Dr. David Milne, and her trio with Chris Bates and Dave Schmalenberger, who recently recorded Mysterious Thelonious and Confluence, and play at Plymouth Congregational church in Minneapolis every Sunday. Other more recent projects include “The Agitators”, a work for choir and jazz ensemble. Commissioned by Carleton’s Choir Director Matthew Olson, this work featured over 100 students along with vocalists Judi Vinar and George Philip Shoultz. The multi movement work set music to the words of historically significant agitators in our country, including Frederick Douglass, and Susan B. Anthony.
