Star Wars Day with Southside Aces
May 4 | 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Traditional Jazz
May the 4th be with you! Get your Star Wars-loving friends out for a concert of your favorite John Williams music from that galaxy far, far away. We all know what “Cantina Band” is going to sound like, but you’ll be astounded by “The Imperial March” through the hot jazz filter. Or how about the Creole clarinet sounds of “Princess Leia’s Theme?” All that and much more. To paraphrase Darth Vader, “Don’t underestimate The Force…of New Orleans Jazz.”
Dan Eikmeier trumpet
Tony Balluff clarinet
Eric Johnson trombone
Robert Bell guitar
Eric Jacobson sousaphone
Dave Michael drums
For two decades Southside Aces have performed the music of New Orleans from Jelly Roll Morton to Louis Armstrong to Preservation Hall and more. They have eight albums to their credit, including their latest, Minneapolis Bump, all originals in the early jazz style. Their Star Wars cred includes a Star Wars-themed 40th birthday party as well as trombonist Eric Johnson having been playing “The Imperial March” since he was eleven.
