A portrait in music, stories and archival photos of St. Paul’s thriving Black neighborhood in the 1940s and ‘50s, before it was sliced down the middle to make room for I-94. Featuring the songs of such revered stars of the ’40s and ’50s as Louis Jordan, Nat King Cole, Ruth Brown, Dinah Washington, Mahalia Jackson and other great artists.

Rondo ’56 was created in 2010 by pianist Dan Chouinard as a commission from the MN Historical Society with the input of Rondo elders and performer colleagues who lived in Rondo. The latest edition of the show is substantially updated in collaboration with vocalists and co-hosts T Mychael Rambo, Thomasina Petrus and Charmin Michelle.
