Maria Jette and Philip Brunelle: An Imaginary Concert at Downton Abbey
Sep 28, 2023 | 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
British Songs of the Downton Abbey Era
Dame Maria Jette and Sir Philip Brunelle invite you to another evening of musical time travel: Victorian and Edwardian hits which Lady Mary would’ve heard in her musical evenings at Downton Abbey. Gorgeous piano solos and heartrending ballads; songs of sunny patriotism, dear little fairies, very bad children, and an owl; plus stories about the lyricists, composers and performers who were the stars of concert halls and London salons. Before Taylor Swift, there was Dame Clara Butt—and she didn’t need a microphone! You’ll go home whistling Roses of Picardy…and wondering if anyone ever did find The Lost Chord.

Conductor/organist/pianist Philip Brunelle is the founder of VocalEssence, and an actual MBE (Member of the British Empire). Maria Jette has sung everything from Bach to commercial jingles, and is the actual President of The Wodehouse Society. They’ve been friends and musical colleagues since she portrayed Fido the coloratura dog in his historic production of Benjamin Britten’s opera, Paul Bunyan.
