Chouinard, Greenwald and Jette: Gershwin and the Roaring Twentysomethings
Feb 11 | 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
Early Musicals, Jazz
Dan Chouinard delivers his piano bar version of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue on its 100th anniversary (it premiered in New York when George was just 25 years old). It’s also a celebration of the pack of young musicians who were all in their 20s during the 1920s and transforming American popular music: George and Ira Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, Noel Coward, Kurt Weill, Dorothy Fields, Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, Fred Astaire and more.
Dan Chouinard host, piano
Maria Jette vocals
Bradley Greenwald vocals
Dan Chouinard has played the Rhapsody in Blue solo and with ensembles since high school, including a 2019 collaboration with the Wayzata Symphony Orchestra, Maria Jette and Bradley Greenwald, a program that focused on young songwriters of the 1920s and featured orchestra-accompanied excerpts from “Showboat” and “Threepenny Opera” and more. Dan, Maria and Bradley have all been performing 1920s music since their 20s.
